Irish Coffee anyone???

Probably, as they say he was born in Scotland, 387 AD, he was the son of a deacon and the grandson of a priest.(seems laws were a bit different back then)

He was captured by pirate's at the tender age of 16 and sold into slavery . For 6 years he drempt of returning to Ireland, and in a dream one night an Angel encouraged him to do so.

He was an unsettled lad and entered a monastery and became a priest, which is where he took the name Patricius. The Pope sent him to Ireland as a missionary in 430 AD. Patrick and his company traveled all around Ireland, preaching and converting.

In 433 on March 26th Easter Sunday actually, he used the Shamrock to represent the Holy Trinity- 3 leaves yet it was still ONE leaf and that's how Ireland's National symbol came about.(so the story goes)?

He died March 17th, 464..at the age? 77 ,which was a ripe old age back then.

He, as legend has it, drove all the snakes from Ireland, into the sea (to date there are no venemious snakes there).

Leprechans are Irish fairies-who make shoes and have hidden treasures. If you catch one you must always keep your eyes on him or he will vanish, thus no treasure.

The Blarney Stone (according to legend) says, an old woman cast a spell on the stone to reward a King who saved her from drowning. Kissing the stone while under the spell the King was able to speak with great sweetness and very convicingly.

Banshee's are female spirits who prophesy a death.

(dates here may vary)

For each petal on the Shamrock

This brings a wish your way

Good Health. Good Luck and Happiness

For today and everyday.

Traditional Irish Toast

IRISH COFFEE is a blend of strong coffee, Irish whiskey, small amount of sugar. It's usually served in a glass mug and topped with whipped cream.

Indulging in a cup of Irish Coffee is justified, according to "Alex Levine": "Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all 4 essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar & fat"

Who wants one? It's ready and Hot...:O) Hugs

You know G-Ma, I had such a great time in Ireland. I hung out in Dublin then took the bus up the Dublin Road to Northern Ireland. What fun talkative lovely friendly people. (Just threw back my own Irish coffee with some Bailey's)

Thanks for this reminder of how great people in the world are and how we should learn more about other cultures. I have traveled alone as an older woman to so many places in the world as have been so regaled and so respected - as a elder - what a pleasure!

Thanks for bringing so many great hubs this way!

Hi gma, what am I doin' here with St. Patty's day so far in the past? I just read a novel about Ireland and thought it would be nice to read about the patron saint. He must have been something. They say Ireland was the first country to go Christian without bloodshed.
