Soldiers Poem for Christmas

Prayers for our soldiers
This is an especially difficult time of the year for many, as well as a wonderful time. I received this e-mail and just had to share it to help remind us here in the USA as well as anywhere there is war going on. Many brave young men and women fight for our right to be free and we must never ever forget this.
As many things are in a horrible state right now, as many are out of work, as many are hungry, as many are foreclosing on their homes, as many are shopping (well many, many more actually) and why do you think this is? How can this be?
The average person gives all they can because they truly understand what it is like to need, or want the basic things of life. Love, food and water...well I may have it typed out of order here..MONEY, Love, Food and Water and in order for us to continue we need to stick together so that is why I wanted to share this poem written by a Marine...hope this doesn't get 'CHOPPED'...:O) Hugs G-Ma
This poem was written by a Marine.
The following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....
PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending soon and some credit is due to our U.S.
this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming
service men and
women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.
Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we
owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and
dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your
small part to plant this small seed
Christmas Poem
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
'SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.'
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I WEPT FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.'
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,!
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.'

I pray God bring them home, we need them and they need us. This is the country they should be protecting, but I don't understand the game, I only know it is money in someone's pocket and it certainly isn't the military or ours. But God knows, hopefully He will show His mercy and power.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful poems. I will share this with my family.
Thank you for this and please all readers keep my daughter Sarah in your prayers, she is a U. S. Marine
This is absolutely beautiful and as you know, veterans have a special place in my heart. Thank you for such a wonderful read. Bless you.
All our soldiers need a lift this time of year, I know first hand what it is like to be gone on christmas day, I spent 2 christmases in Vietnam. So my heart goes out to all our men and momen in a far away land. God Bless them all and keep them safe.
Beautiful Poem thanks for sharing. God Bless and Happy Holidays
I hope I always live my life in the spirit of Christmas, and never forget our soldiers and their sacrifices.
As the soldier in the poem had the floor for a bed, I can't help but reflect on baby Jesus who had "...no crib for His bed..."
I'd like to add to the soldier's prayer:
"...Be near me (them), Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay,
Close by me (them) forever,
and love me (them), I pray!
Bless all the dear children
in Thy tender care
And take us (them),to heaven,
to Live with Thee there."
Merry Christmas G-Ma.
